What is Dedicated Web Hosting?

When we speak of hosting servers, there are three main kinds - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated web hosting servers. Shared hosting web servers host lots of clients and therefore the system resources per account are restricted, virtual private server accounts give you more configuration independence, but also influence other private virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the autonomy to perform everything you please without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated web hosting server?

Dedicated servers are normally much more expensive than shared hosting servers or private virtual web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is very simple. If your company has a heavy resource-consuming online portal, or just has very specific server architecture requirements, the most reasonable option would be a dedicated server. For someone who is willing to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is not an issue. You are granted complete root-level access and can utilize 100 percent of the server's resources without anyone else utilizing these system resources and meddling with your websites.

Hardware specifications

The majority of website hosting vendors, including us at Odo Global, offer several hardware configurations you can select from according to your requirements. The hardware configurations include different kinds of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and hard disk sizes and different traffic allowances. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is a useful tool if you would like to utilize the server for website hosting purposes only and choose not to use a Secure Shell client for all the changes you will be making. We offer three types of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our web servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server through a Secure Shell client exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you wish to give full server root access to someone else who has less technical knowledge than yourself. That is why having hosting CP software installed is a clever idea. The Hepsia Control Panel tool that we provide does not include full root-level access and is mostly appropriate for somebody who owns plenty of web portals that swallow a lot of resources, but wants to administer the web pages, databases and email accounts via an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you complete root-level access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting accounts rather than using the web hosting server only for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated web hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is desirable to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at Odo Global the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated web hosting server as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would allow you to have the same data on 2 server disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete root-level access erases something by accident.
